This 17-slot chassis accepts MM-1288 series high-density MPEG blade encoders. The chassis supplies power to the blades. The chassis will run from just a single power supply, offering fail-over if you add a second power supply. Each blade accepts analog video and audio, converts it to a single-program MPEG-2 transport stream (MP2TS), and streams it out the Ethernet port. When configured for multicast streaming, it can send the MP2TS out over raw UDP or encapsulate it in RTP. In unicast mode, a client may use RTSP to request the stream. Various hardware decoders and PC software programs can accept these streams, allowing many possible configurations. The multicast option makes this device especially useful for streaming video from any source that will be used simultaneously by many users. For example, cable channels or local-origination video cameras. See the system diagram on the next page for a typical IPTV application based on the MM-1287 chassis.
